Cabbies: fare hike too high

by on Jan.03, 2011, under Breaking News

Taxi drivers in Davao City are not upbeat about the impending taxi fare increase, saying this is too high for the ordinary worker and thus may eat into their income. One of the taxi drivers of Kizzia Taxi Company said the spike in the fare will discourage regular taxi riders from riding as often. He also said that for a family man who has eight children to feed and to send to school he cannot afford a decrease in his present income. Another taxi driver of the same taxi company saying the drivers will not benefit from the increase as this makes their service unaffordable to the general commuting public. The department of transportation and communication said that the same increase will take effect 15 days after publication. That will be on January 15. The land transportation and franchising regulatory board approved the P40 pesos flag down from the present P30. While the next 250 meters has also been increased to P3.50 from P2.50. Anyone who wishes to appeal the increase has still the chance to file a petition before the LTFRB.
