Water in ATM’s not safe; health official says

Purified water sold through a water dispenser or through the so called automated tubig machines (ATM’s) are not safe and had no permit, according to a health official. The selling of purified water along the roads was not safe since it would expose the waters to contaminants like dust and crude oil said Department of Health. They also said that even transporting purified water in not an enclosed vehicle such as trisikad or motorcycle could affect the water. They said that this kind of purified water should be transported with a closed vehicle because purified water has no chemical disinfectant or chlorine since it uses the reverse osmosis process. They also said that exposing the purified water with sunlight would produce algae and other bacteria. They also called on local officials especially local heath officers to monitor these retailed purified water for being sold along the road because it also didn’t have any permit. The Department of Health was referring to the ATM, a water vending machine where a P1 coin triggers the water dispenser to release enough mineral water to fill a small plastic tube, the kind used to make iced water.
