Typhoid fever downs 160 in Cebu town

At least 160 residents of two villages in Cebu province have been reportedly been hit by a supposed typhoid fever, even as health authorities suspect a contaminated water. At least 30 of the 160 residents from Poblacion and Sta. Filomena village in Alegria town have been hospitalized. Local authorities said that the 160 residents showed symptoms of typhoid including a week long fever, when they went to the town health center for check-up. The report said that the health authorities are now taking blood samples from the affected residents to double check if they were affected by typhoid. The Department of Health is studying the possibility of declaring an outbreak of typhoid in the two villages.

Landslides in Cebu block the road

Due to the heavy rains caused a landslide in Barangay Montañeza in the southern town of Malabuyoc, Cebu. The Malabuyoc Police Office estimating the damaged to the spillway at 500,000php. No one was reported injured during the accident. Earlier that night the neighboring town of Alegria, passenger busses and private vehicles were stranded for hours when a landslide occurred in Sitio Tumanduk, Barangay Legaspi. A Ceres Bus had been towed by a bulldozer from the Department of Public Works and Highways after a portion of the soil that eroded hit the bus. Because of the incident commuters bound for the town proper or to the neighboring towns were forced to leave the vehicles they were riding and across the river through a temporary wooden ladder. And at the other side of the river other vehicles were waited to bring them to their destinations. Clearing and repairs of the spillways was already started and they hope it will be open as soon as possible.
