A fire has damaged more than P1 million worth of property after it razed a four storey building in Parañaque City. A report said that the fire hit the building located at the corner of Baclaran and Tomas Claudio that houses members of the Philippine Airlines Employee’s Union (Palea). It was not yet clear on what the caused of the fire but some believed it was caused either by unattended appliances or overloading of electrical connections.
A magnitude 4 earthquake rocked in Vigan City in Ilocos Sur province. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported the tremor occurred at 12:22 a.m. with a depth of 36 kilometers. The epicenter of the quake was recorded at 44 kilometers west of Vigan City. The quake was tectonic in origin. No damage has been reported and no aftershock was expected in the quake.
Three people were died while two others were injured in a road accident in barangay Castellano San Leonardo in Nueva Ecija province. The reports said that three motorcycles and an ambulance owned by the local government of the Bongabon town were involved in the accident around 11:30 p.m. along Maharlika Highway. The ambulance was heading north from manila when a motorcycle in the opposite direction reportedly hit it. The motorcycle had just overtaken another vehicle on the southbound lane. After the incident the ambulance hit another two motorcycles. The three fatalities were the driver of the first motorcycle, a passenger also of the first motorcycle and the driver of the second motorcycle. The three fatalities reportedly did not wear helmet when the accident happened. The driver of the ambulance was brought to the hospital and is now reportedly in critical condition.
A supposed get together of friends `and relatives in a private resort in barangay Biasong Talisay City turned into a tragedy after one of them drowned in a pool. The victim was a resident in barangay Panadtaran San Fernando town. According to the Talisay police the victim and a friend were using the pool’s slide but while the later managed to stay afloat after sliding the victim was gone for several seconds. This prompted her friends to call for rescue. The victim was retrieved still from the water and the resort lifeguard quickly applied cardio pulmonary resuscitation on her. The victim was rushed to the hospital in Naga City where she expired. Based on the family interview the victim has a heart disease and could have suffered from cardiac arrest while still sliding that she might have lost consciousness when she touched the water’s surface.
Meanwhile on the same night, a 34 year old man was shot by the unidentified person in sitio Nazareno barangay mohon of the same city and is now critical condition. The victim sustain gunshot wound at the back part of his head he was rushed to the hospital but was transferred to the government run hospital in Cebu City. Based on the investigation conducted by the city police the victim was standing in front of their house when a person shot him as he passed by. The gunman then ran away and is large as of this posting.
Three people were killed after a passenger bus plummeted into a ravine in Quezon province. The report said that the bus was travelling from Sorsogon to Cubao in Quezon City when it nose dived into a 50 foot ravine that resulted in the death of its driver and two passengers. There 18 people were injured in the crash were rushed at a hospital in Pagbilao town. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on a highway in the New Diversion road in barangay Silangang Malacboy Pagbilao. The bus had allegedly experienced mechanical trouble before it left terminal in Bicol. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
A man was discovered dead inside one of the rented rooms of a hotel in Sta. Cruz Manila. The fatality was at least 50 years old of regular build. His body was discovered by room boys of the rented rooms located along Rizal Avenue in Sts. Cruz slumped face down on the bed and naked. It said no external sign of body injury was noted on the victim. No other valuables were found in his possession except for a cigarette case containing his ID. It also said that the victim checked in with a woman companion at around 4:56 a.m. and occupied a room at the third floor of the hotel. The couple was supposed to check out after three hours. When the agreed time lapsed hotel staff knocked on the door to inform the couple that they have to leave the room. However despite repeated knocks, no one responded, prompting the room boys to force open the door. The fatality was found dead but his female companion was nowhere in sight. The victim could have stuffed a heart attack during their love encounter and that woman left for fear of being investigated.

The Department oh Health DOH said that instead using of torotot and firecrackers people should just use pots and pans to make noise on New Years Eve. Two children have been rushed to the hospital after swallowing torotot whistles. Mean while the DOH already recorded 173 firecracker related injuries from December 21 to 28. the DOH has repeatedly advised people to conduct community fireworks and local government to assign specific areas where adults can light firecrackers during New Year revelry.
A nine year old girl was raped and killed on Christmas Day in remote village in Maguindanao. The victim was on her way home with her friends from Cotabato when waylaid by the suspect. The suspect allegedly dragged the victim to an abandoned house where she was raped. The body bore stabs wounds and her head was apparently smashed several times on the concrete floor. The victim was brought to the hospital where she was declared dead. Based on the reports gathered from the police office the incident happened around 6:40 p.m. The suspect was arrested after police launched manhunt operations.
A drunken truck helper who had fallen asleep in a videoke bar was stabbed dead by a man who followed him into the establishment in Quezon City. A 32 years old victim died of multiple stab wounds. The police said that the victim was rushed to the hospital with the knife used to kill him embedded in his neck. The victim is a resident of barangay payatas B, worker as a dump truck helper. The police started looking for his attacker who was described as around five feet in height and of medium build. The witnesses said then suspect was dressed in a white undershirt and a pair of blue jogging pants. He had put a handkerchief on his face to hide his identity. Police said that the suspect followed the victim inside the videoke bar at the corner of Bulacan Street and Payatas at around 2 a.m. because the victim was drunk the victim fell asleep on a table near the door of the establishment. The suspect then took out a knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly. The victim woke up and tried to defend himself but his attacker kept on stabbing him before fleeing in a tricycle headed in the direction of Payatas Road. The police said that it is possible that the victim and his attacker had been involved in an earlier tiff before the former entered the bar and fell asleep. A witness rushed the victim to the hospital and was declared dead on arrival.
A man who happened to walk past a group of men engaged in a drinking spree was stabbed dead for no apparent reason in Quezon City. Around 15 men engaged up on the victim. The victim was a resident of Dupax Compound in Barangay Old Balara, died as he was undergoing treatment. The stabbing took place on Road 44 inside the compound at around 2:20 a.m. The group allegedly ganged up on the victim for no apparent reason. The men immediately fled after the attack on the victim who was rushed by his brother to the hospital. The victim was died while being treated by the doctors for the five stab wounds. The police are still looking for the attackers of the victim.
A policeman was wounded in a drive by shooting in Paranaque City. Initials reports from Paranaque police the victim as police officer assigned at the police community precinct 2 of the same city. The victim was patrolling the area in front of the Anflo Management and Investment Corp. Building at 411 Quirino Avenue corner Mia Road in Tambo when unidentified suspects drove by on board a taxi and shot the victim. The incident occurred at around 5 a.m., the victim was with two other policemen when the attack occurred.
Five members of a family died when they were trapped by a fire inside their upholstery shop residence in barangay Santiago Old in Nabua Camarines Sur. Quoting initial reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Nabua town said that the fire could have been triggered by faulty electrical wiring that quickly gutted the residence due to the presence of upholstery materials, particularly the foams which were highly combustible. The investigation is still ongoing. But initially probers see faulty electrical wiring could have led to the fire that instantaneously killed the trapped family. Firefighters immediately responded to a call that the upholstery shop which was also residence of the victims was on the fire. The fire spread quickly and immediately killed the trapped victims, probably also due to the presence of the combustible materials in the upholstery shop.
A Filipino- American serviceman jumped to his death at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after security officials arrested him for alleged possession of cocaine. A suspect, 35 year old US Navy Officer was about to board a Philippine Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles when he was accosted by airport authorities and held at the pre-departure area of the NAIA Terminal II. A plastic sachet of the suspected cocaine was reportedly found in suspect possession. Aviation security said that the suspect was standing beside him when the carry-on bag containing the illegal substance was emptied. He also added that the suspect became hysterical and was yelling at him which made him seek police assistance. But the suspect denied possessing the sachet and insisted he was just being framed up. While detained in the police center the suspect requested two policemen to allow him to go to the comfort room. Two police officers escorted the suspect. However the handcuffed of the suspect who was already walking with the cops, suddenly ran towards the stairway and jumped with his head first to the ground. He jumped approximately 10 feet height from the ground. The suspect sustained head injuries and was immediately brought to the hospital in Pasay City but was pronounced dead.
Two suspects who are wanted for rape and robbery were arrested in two separate operations by the police in Bacolod City. The arrested suspect who has pending charges for rape and was arrested around 9 p.m. in barangay Villamonte. On the other hand, another suspect was arrested in another operation conducted at his residence at Purok Tangkong Barangay 2. He has pending charges for robbery before a court in Bacolod City. Both suspects are presently detained at the lock up cell of police station for failure to post their bail.
Eighteen taxi drivers who are members of the Bacolod Negros Taxi Drivers Club have received recognition from Bacolod City government for their acts of honesty. They received the award for returning the money and other important documents which were inadvertently left by their passengers in their taxi cabs. President of the member drivers group said that the 18 drivers deserved the recognition because of their extraordinary act of returning the things that were left in their taxi cabs. The mayor also encouraged these taxi drivers to continue the good deeds because the more they help others by being honest, the more they will be blessed.
Two people have been confirmed dead while 6 were injured when an ambulance slammed into a toll booth along the skyway in Taguig. The ambulance reportedly swerved into the opposite lane on its high speed approach to toll no.6 of Skyway Alpha in the city of Taguig Metro Manila resulting in the accident. Four of the injured are currently being treated at the hospital. Among the four are the patient on board the ambulance and the toll booth teller. The ambulance was reportedly carrying seven passengers including the patient. As of this posting the ambulance has been removed from the accident site.
A 38 year old passenger headed for Cotabato City was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Christmas Day after a packet of suspected shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride was discovered in his underwear. The suspect had just entered the departure area of Terminal 2 and was supposed to check in for Philippine Airlines flight when the security personnel who frisked him discovered a suspicious bulge in his crotch. The suspect played at first and told the frisker that he was just well endowed. Unconvinced the frisker subjected the man to a search that yielded the packet containing 200 grams of white powder believed to be shabu. The police are now preparing charges of illegal possession and shipment of drugs against the suspect.
A fire that lasted for four and a half hour gutted a hardware store and the appliance depot of a department store in this capital town. Razed were the hardware and general merchandise store of former mayor and the Arora general merchandise store of Indian national. It took firefighters until 6:30 to put out the fire in Barangay Calamagui 2 under control. No one was injured in the blaze. It close to P10 million worth of stocks went up in smoke in the hardware store, mostly galvanized iron sheets that have been demand since the onslaught of super typhoon Juan.
A councilor in Tineg town accidentally shot dead his own seven year old daughter while he and his wife were grappling for a gun during a fight on Christmas Eve. The councilor is now detained for the death of his daughter. Police said that the councilor was fetched by his wife from a drinking spree at the former compound in barangay Calaba in this capital town and a quarrel ensued between them. Husband and wife grappled for a gun and it went off hitting their daughter in the left chest. The girl died while being rushed to the hospital. Policemen found at the scene a live caliber .45 bullet, a fired .45 bullet and a caliber .45 pistol loaded with five bullets.
Six persons were wounded when a man ran amuck and went on a shooting rampage using a .45 caliber handgun in Tondo Manila. Among the victims is three year old who was passing through the area after his parents brought him to see his godparents. Police said 38 years old allegedly started shooting people along Navarro Street around 7:30. he only stopped after he was shot by the police officer who rushed to the scene. The suspect was invited by the MPD for questioning. The suspect faces criminal charges for shooting six persons.
A teenager died while his five year old brother and a friend were hurt after the motorcycle they were riding slammed into a taxicab in Quezon City on Christmas Day. A 17 year old boy died of severe injuries to the head and body while he was being treated at the Quezon City hospital. Is brother and a friend were injured in the accident which happened around 12:45 along Sauyo Road Novaliches. The victims did not have helmets on while their friend drove without license. The teenagers were allegedly under the influence of liquor and police said they may have come from a Christmas party before the accident. According to the police the motorcycle allegedly veered into the opposite lane and slammed into a taxi. Their friend was thrown the driver’s seat and hit by an approaching Toyota Vois. Meanwhile the 17 year old fractured his skull and injured other parts of his body when hit the pavement. His friend is in critical condition while his brother was discharged after he was treated for bruises and gashes.
Two quakes shock Mindanao measuring 4.7 and 2.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale. The 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit Mati, Davao Oriental. Its epicenter was located 150 kilometers south east of Mati Davao Oriental, meanwhile a 2.8 magnitude tremor felt in Mamburao Occidental Mindoro. Its epicenter was 65 kilometers northwest of Mamburao Occidental Mindoro. The tremors were tectonic in origin. It did not report any intensities due to the earthquakes. It also did not receive any report on damage to properties or loss of lives caused by the temblors.
A laborer who was in the middle of an argument with his wife died on Christmas Day after his drunken son stabbed him in a fit of rage. The victim was a laborer and resident of sitio Mendez in Baesa Quezon City. His attacker his 28 year old son escaped and was being sought by the police. The stabbing happened inside the victim’s home. Based on the investigation the victim and his wife were talking about their financial problems and mounting debts when the discussion turned into an argument. The victim then asked his wife for a detailed computation of their expenses which she could not provide. This made the victim angrier and he raised his voice at his wife which irked their son who had just come home. Their son who was drunk tried to intervene and talk some sense into his father but the victim also became angry at him. The two started arguing and his son in a drunken rage, pulled out a knife and stabbed his father. His son immediately ran out of their house while his mother shouted for help attracting the attention of their neighbors who helped rush the victim to the hospital for treatment, but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
A middle aged driver who tried to play peacemaker between his warring neighbors ended up dead on Christmas Day after one of them shot him. The victim was 45 years old a resident of Marcel Drive in Sangandaan Quezon City. The victim was shot for trying to intervene in an argument between his neighbors. The initial investigation showed that because of the noise the three were making, other residents in the compound called on their other neighbors to help pacify in the quarreling parties. The victim shot into the chest and the face. The suspect and the two men he was quarreling with immediately fled after wards. Bystanders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital but he died before he could be treated by a doctor. The police are looking for the suspect to make answer for the shooting incident.
A trisikad driver died while the taxi driver is in the critical condition after two separate shooting incidents that marred the Christmas celebration in Cebu City. The driver died of multiple gunshots wounds in the body after two unidentified motorcycle riding men shot him several times in barangay Duljo Fatima. The victim was having a drinking session with his friends along B. Aranas Extension when one of the assailants approached and shot him several times. The gunman who stands about 5’3” in height about 30 years old, chubby and was wearing a dirty white t-shirt immediately rode on a waiting motorcycle and escaped towards barangay Labangon. The homicide investigators recovered four empty shells of caliber .45 caliber ammunition, slug and metallic fragments of the ammunition of the same caliber from the crime scene.
In another shooting incident, a taxi driver is in critical condition after he was shot by still unidentified person in barangay Inayawan. The unidentified shot the victim when the letter stopped at the corner of F.Jaca St., and Greenfield. The managed to drive his cab but latter bumped on a passenger jeepney. The gunman was seen boarding a brown Toyota Fortuner after the shooting incident and sped off towards barangay Dawis in Talisay City.
Meanwhile a farmer died while his companion was injured after a neighbor stabbed them following a heated argument over a card game on the eve of Christmas in Sitio Lobris, Barangay Pong-ol Sibugay. The suspect is a construction worker. The victims and the suspect were reportedly playing a card game locally known as tong-its when a heated argument happened between both of them. The suspect left but later returned with a knife and started stabbing the victim. A farmer was died on the spot while his companion tried to pacify but got the suspect’s ire instead. The suspect also started attacking the companion of the farmer but the latter managed to fight back despite having wounded. The suspect fled but was arrested by the responding barangay tanods.
A man was arrested as he allegedly tried to steal from two Chinese tourists as they slept inside their room in Beach Resort in Moalboal Town. The two said that they were both sleeping when of them awakened after hearing a loud thud inside their room. The Chinese national shouted for help upon seeing the suspect inside their room with their wallets in his possession. The suspect immediately threw the $420 dollars and 200 Hong Kong dollars on the floor before he was arrested by the bystanders and barangay tanods who responded to the alarm. According to the police the suspect entered their room by removing three jalousie blades at the comfort room window and wiggling himself inside. When the police officers arrived the suspect had already been collared was closely guarded by the bystanders. The suspect is detained at the police station awaiting charges to be filled against him.
Three men including an American national were hurt in separate hacking incidents in the province. The American, 31 year old just happened to be with the target person, 31 years old when the two were hacked at Sunvil Compound in barangay Poblacion Barili. The two are temporarily residing at a rented house. They were rushed to the hospital but later referred to the other hospital. The suspect is now detained by the police. The victims were reportedly arguing with the brother in law of the suspect during a party at the compound. When two were heading home after the party the suspect was already waiting for then at a corner along with two minors. The police investigation revealed that the suspect then hacked the victim’s using a scythe hitting the victim in neck and in both arms. The suspect surrendered to the responding police after the incident.
Meanwhile a 33 year old man was hacked several times by an unidentified man while standing outside the dancing area during a benefit dance at San Antonio North barangay Guinsay Danao City. The victim was a resident of Lapu-lapu St., barangay Suba sustained wounds in his head, nape, neck and right hand. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and later transferred to the other hospital in the city. The suspect eluded arrest. The victim was outside the dancing area watching when the suspect appeared and hacked him. The police are still looking for the suspect.

In Talisay City, a 50 year old man died after he was shot for mauling the suspect’s nephew at 7th St., Plainville barangay Bulacao. The victim is a resident in sitio mananga barangay Tabunok, sustained two gunshot wounds in the head. He was rushed to the hospital but declared dead on arrival. His assailant surrendered to the responding police officers. The police investigation disclosed that the victim was drunk when he went to visit his brother at sitio Paglaum when he passed by suspects group who were drinking along the road. The victim suddenly stopped and without provocation mauled the nephew of the suspect. The nephew of the suspect sustained bruises in the face but was able to escape from the victim’s grip and ran. And the victim was allegedly about mauled the suspect when the suspect pulled out his .38 revolver and shot the victim twice.
In Sibonga, a joke ended a security guard’s life after he was shot dead by his best friend at L.Mercado St,. Barangay Poblacion. The victim suffered from several gunshot wounds in his face and both legs. The suspect immediately fled. Both are drinking while making fun of each other.
Also other was killed; a wife was shot dead by her husband at sitio Das Highway barangay Lutopan Toledo City. The victim has a gunshot wound in the head after she was shot by her husband inside their house. Their children heard a gun shot before seeing their mother lying bloodied on the floor but they did not hear the couple having an argument. The couple has been separated for 10 years now. The wife lived with her parents at Tuburan leaving her three children in the custody of her husband. The victim arrived last week to celebrate Christmas with their children.
16 families spent their Christmas under a tent after a fire of undetermined origin razed their homes in Sitio Apple Barangay Cogon Pardo on Christmas Day. Thirteen houses were totally destroyed while two others were gutted by fire that allegedly started in the two storey semi concrete house. The fire department estimated the damaged at P900, 000. No fatality or injured was reported during the fire which lasted for more than one hour. The fire department raised alarm to Task Force Alpha which means that firemen from neighboring cities responded to help put off the fire. They are still conducting investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The residents were forced to cancel their schedule fellowship on the day because of the fire.
A fire razed a single story residential house in barangay Upper Market Subdivision while its homeowners were allegedly on vacation in Manila. The Baguio City Fire Station received a call from a neighbor saying smoke was seen coming out from the roof of the house. Fire marshals immediately responded to the area who upon their arrival noticed thick smoke following from the roof and several small opening of the house. As flames continued to intensify, the firemen forcibly cut open the locked gate laden with barbed wires. Reports from the neighbors showed there was no sign of the still unidentified caretaker hired to look after the house during holidays. Responding firemen immediately conducted firefighting operations which took 40 minutes before declaring the blaze under control. The investigation showed that the fire destroyed more than P500, 000 worth of property the house and most of its contents were made from combustible materials.
A 47 year old man sustained serious injuries after he was reportedly shot inside his own house by the live-in-partner of his former wife. The police arrested his former wife for her alleged involvement in the case. The gunman was of dau mabalacat town, was able escape and is still at large. The victims live in partner said to the investigators that the victim was lying in bed and was about to sleep when the suspect barged into the house. The suspect shot the victim in several times and then fled. The victim was hit on the mouth and in the right hand the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment but was later transferred to another hospital because his condition was critical. Police already filed charges against the suspect and the former wife of the victim.
A teenager hanged himself Christmas morning in Tondo Manila because he did not get any gift. A 14 year old boy was found dead by his grandmother on December 25 in the morning. According to a buddy of the victim, the youngster was having a terrible day after he was bitten by a dog and got into a fight with a neighbor. On top of these the victim was sulking over the absence of a noche Buena meal and any gift for him. His grandmother said that she had already gotten him something to wear for Christmas. She also said she blames herself for what happened, believes that her grandson might have been hurt when she lashed at him because of his vices. The victim who was abandoned by his parents did not leave any suicide note. Authorities don’t suspect foul play and the family do not want any further investigation into the youngster’s death.
Tension gripped passengers at a bus terminal in Kabacan town in north Cotabato after an improvised explosive devices was found. The IED was found at the terminal of the rural transit bus firm along Rizal Avenue in the town. A municipal police said that a utility worker found the explosive at 7:45 p.m. and promptly reported the matter to the police. N initial investigation showed that the IED was made from an 81-mm mortar. A battery, an electronics switch and an improvised blasting cap. Police are not discounting extortion as the motive behind the incident.
At least 27 minors detained for offenses ranging from robbery and theft to drug use are now the subject of a search after they escaped from Bacolod City police’s Social Development Center. The escaped minors were between 13 and 17 years old. Four of the minors were facing robbery and theft cases. The rest were ruby users referring to the drug like addiction common among street children to sniffing chemical based contact cements such as rugby. A house parent said that one of the children had a duplicate key to the center’s main door which they used to escape. An investigation as to who is responsible for giving the duplicate key to the child is now being conducted.
At least 160 residents of two villages in Cebu province have been reportedly been hit by a supposed typhoid fever, even as health authorities suspect a contaminated water. At least 30 of the 160 residents from Poblacion and Sta. Filomena village in Alegria town have been hospitalized. Local authorities said that the 160 residents showed symptoms of typhoid including a week long fever, when they went to the town health center for check-up. The report said that the health authorities are now taking blood samples from the affected residents to double check if they were affected by typhoid. The Department of Health is studying the possibility of declaring an outbreak of typhoid in the two villages.
