A 58 year old British national was found dead with gunshot wounds in the neck, jaw and back in a subdivision here on New Year’s Eve, police suspect was a case of robbery homicide. The body of the victim was found by early morning joggers along the main road of the De Guzman Subdivision. Reports said that the victim was last seen alive drinking liquor alone at the bar in barangay Bantug Norte and left the place at around 3:30 a.m. The victim’s wallet was missing while his ATM cards, calling cards and photos were found near his body. Two empty caliber .45 shells were recovered at the scene. A province wide manhunt is ongoing for a suspect.
Manila Police District Public Information office showed that two people were killed and four hurt in gun-shooting incidents across the city on New Year’s Eve. A tricycle driver from Maceda St., Sampaloc, was shot dead at around 10:55 a.m. last Friday, as he was standing idly at a canteen along Maria Clara St. near Prudencio St., in the same district. Footage showed two helmet-wearing men riding past twice on a blue motorcycle. The second time they stooped in the front of the victim and assaulted him before shooting him in the chest with a .45 caliber gun. The gunmen took the gold necklace of the victim allegedly worth of P60, 000.
Meanwhile a painter from Molave St., Tondo, was also shot dead by a motorcycle-riding tandem, this time with white handkerchiefs and ball caps covering their faces. The victim was drinking with friends in his residence at 8 p.m. The riders stopped in front of the group, fired several gunshots, and the victim fatally on his right chest before fleeing.
Meanwhile a 15 year old of Anonas St., Kahilum II Padacan was injured at 11 p.m. when his friend accidentally pulled the trigger of a pen gun he was showing off.
A 55 year old New Zealand national suffered a heart attack and died inside a restroom of the Mati Public market while the nation celebrates the New Year. The foreigner was on board Bachelor Bus from Davao City and arrived at the Mati Overland Transport Terminal Complex around 2 p.m. The owner of stall no. 10 of the terminal complex said that when the victim a lightened from the bus near her stall she observed that the foreigner was wearing only one sandal with his legs swollen. The victim was said to have walked in a staggered manner appearing weak and holding the steel railings of the terminal to prevent him self from falling down. The victim was seen entering the restroom of the nearby public market. The restroom collector said while the man was inside he heard something hit the door and so he called his companion to check. The restroom collector and his companion found the foreigner lying on his back unconscious. Civil security unit personnel on duty brought the victim to the hospital. The attending physician tried to revive the victim but in vain. The victim was declared dead. The cause of the death was acute myocardial infarction commonly known as heart attack. The city of government of Mati has already coordinated with the Embassy of New Zealand.
A police chief in Talavera town in Nueva Ecija province was shot dead. The report said the police chief was shot dead several times by his deputy police inspector around 9 p.m. the two reportedly engaged in a heated argument before the incident happened outside the police station. The police inspector was drunk at the time of the incident. He used a 9mm pistol in shooting the victim. The suspect surrendered to authorities and is now detained in Camp Olivas in Pampanga province. The investigation is still ongoing.
The Quezon City Police District disposes illegal pyrotechnics in Camp Karingal. A report said that bulk of the illegal items was confiscated from people boarded buses bound to the provinces. Members of the Quezon City fire department and the bomb squad of the police were also present during the disposal.
A fire razed a building of a university in Manila. A report said that the fire of undetermined origin hit the Philippine Normal University Center for Teaching and Learning Building around 10:15 a.m. The fire was put out around 10:48 a.m. No casualty was reported in the accident.
A magnitude 4.4 earthquake rocked a town in Leyte province. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 7 a.m. with its epicenter at nine kilometers northwest of Capoocan town. The quake was tectonic in origin. The Phivolcs said no damage and casualty was recorded and no aftershock was expected in the quake.
A fire hit an establishment in Boracay while people welcomed the New Year. The report said that the fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. in a plastic garments store in Boracay Station 3. Initial investigation said that a firecracker which landed the roof of the store caused the fire. The fire reached the first alarm and was put under control around 12:45 a.m. no casualty was reported in the incident. Authorities estimated the cost of the damage from P50, 000 to 1000, 000.
Stray bullets at the height of the New Year celebration killed two people in Pangasinan and Compostela Valley provinces. A report said that the 17 year old victim was hit by a stray bullet past midnight in barangay Carmen in Rosales Pangasinan. The victim was just standing in front of their house when he was hit in the head. He was immediately brought to the hospital but died.
Also a 20 year old in Agusan Del Sur and a mine worker at the Diwalwal mining area in barangay Diwata Monkayo Compostela Valley died due to stray bullet. The victim was standing near a window to watch a fireworks display when he was hit in his chest. He was brought to a hospital but also died.
A member of an all-female singing and dance group was found dead along the north Luzon Expressway (NLEX). Report said that Rejoice Rivera, 26, Malolos City Bulacan and a member of the Baywalk Bodies was found dead by an NLEX patrol team on a northbound shoulder near the Tabang toll gate with two bullet wounds in her heads. According to the reports, a witness saw a body of the victim dumped along the expressway in Guinguinto town but failed to get the plate number of the suspect’s vehicle. The victim was wearing a gray shirt and denim shorts, was identified by her relatives in a morgue in Malolos. The relatives said that the victim was the second child was the breadwinner of the family and no known enemies. The police said that the victim told to her mom that someone will fetch her from their house before she went missing. The Bulacan police are now trying to identify the victim’s companion on the night she left home.
Albay province has been put under state of calamity due to continued rains that resulted in flooding and landslide. A report said that the governor declared a state of calamity due to the damages brought by rains in different parts of the province.
A police official is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office holding cell after he allegedly shot a charcoal vendor the other day in sitio Buwanan barangay pung-ol Sibugay Cebu City. The suspect was identified as Inspector of Barangay Guadalupe commander of the 2nd coy of Regional Public Safety Battalion based in town of Moalboal. The suspect was allegedly shot and wounded charcoal vendor a resident of Pung-ol Sibugay. The report said that the victim and his brother were trying to cut branches from trees on a lot owned by the suspect. The caretaker of the suspect shouted at them saying why both of you cut trees. The victim answered its only the branches. After the exchange the caretaker told to the suspect that some men were cutting trees on his lot. The suspect allegedly went to the house of the victim with a pistol and shot him in the back. The victim was rushed to the hospital where doctors said that the victim was in danger of being paralyzed because the bullet hit his spinal cord. The CCPO already received a shooting alarm report from his team in Sibugay. It also said that the suspect was there to make a report about the trees in his lot being cut by some residents in the place and not about the shooting alarm. The CCPO said that after realizing that the police officer was the primary suspect of the shooting alarm he stood and served as the arresting officer of the police official. They brought the suspect to CCMC for a liquor test it was there where the victim pointed to the suspect as his assailant. The suspect is now facing frustrated murder charges.
Two people were injured in a passenger bus accident in Camarines Sur province. A report said that the two buses crashed along the Andaya highway in barangay Agropacion in Ragay town. The two injured were identified as resident of San Roque Bato Catanduanes who sustained bruises and wounds in his body and the other one is from Pawa, Tabaco City who was the bus conductor. The bus came from Albay and was headed for Metro Manila when the accident happened. Meanwhile the unhurt passengers were transferred to another bus.
A reporter was injured after fighting against cellphones thieves in Cotabato City. A reporter was walking at the corner of Bonifacio and Don Rufino Alonzo Street in Poblacion 6 when two men approached and attempted to grab his mobile phone. The reporter reportedly resisted prompting one of the suspects to attack him with knife. The victim was brought to a hospital in the city as he sustained injuries in his right arm and lower back. Manhunt operations have been launched against the suspects.
A woman was killed when the gift containing three bombs exploded in her residence at a posh subdivision in Bambang Taguig City. The victim was accompanied by her seven year old daughter at their residence at the Mahogany Three Subdivision while her husband was outside the house when the explosion happened. None of the two were hurt because the victim was alone. At the family’s living room when she opened the package. It said that the gift was sent to the family in their old Paranaque residence and was only picked up by their long time driver.
The Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office has indicated the owner and the boat captain of the fishing boat earlier caught for illegal fishing in the waters off Bantayan Island for violation of the Fisheries Code of the Philippines. The provincial prosecutor has recommended P12, 000 bail for the owner of the boat temporary while P10, 000 for the the captain of the boat. The case stemmed from the December 27 operation conducted by the members of the Bantayan Police Station wherein the suspects and 14 crew members were caught illegally fishing at the vicinity of Barangay Lipayran. The police arrested the captain of the boat and his crew members. However the crew members were later released and were also not included in the filling of the charges. The police said under the law only the boat captain and the owner could be held liable.
A fire has damaged more than P1 million worth of property after it razed a four storey building in Parañaque City. A report said that the fire hit the building located at the corner of Baclaran and Tomas Claudio that houses members of the Philippine Airlines Employee’s Union (Palea). It was not yet clear on what the caused of the fire but some believed it was caused either by unattended appliances or overloading of electrical connections.

A nine year old girl was raped and killed on Christmas Day in remote village in Maguindanao. The victim was on her way home with her friends from Cotabato when waylaid by the suspect. The suspect allegedly dragged the victim to an abandoned house where she was raped. The body bore stabs wounds and her head was apparently smashed several times on the concrete floor. The victim was brought to the hospital where she was declared dead. Based on the reports gathered from the police office the incident happened around 6:40 p.m. The suspect was arrested after police launched manhunt operations.
A 38 year old passenger headed for Cotabato City was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Christmas Day after a packet of suspected shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride was discovered in his underwear. The suspect had just entered the departure area of Terminal 2 and was supposed to check in for Philippine Airlines flight when the security personnel who frisked him discovered a suspicious bulge in his crotch. The suspect played at first and told the frisker that he was just well endowed. Unconvinced the frisker subjected the man to a search that yielded the packet containing 200 grams of white powder believed to be shabu. The police are now preparing charges of illegal possession and shipment of drugs against the suspect.
A councilor in Tineg town accidentally shot dead his own seven year old daughter while he and his wife were grappling for a gun during a fight on Christmas Eve. The councilor is now detained for the death of his daughter. Police said that the councilor was fetched by his wife from a drinking spree at the former compound in barangay Calaba in this capital town and a quarrel ensued between them. Husband and wife grappled for a gun and it went off hitting their daughter in the left chest. The girl died while being rushed to the hospital. Policemen found at the scene a live caliber .45 bullet, a fired .45 bullet and a caliber .45 pistol loaded with five bullets.
A teenager died while his five year old brother and a friend were hurt after the motorcycle they were riding slammed into a taxicab in Quezon City on Christmas Day. A 17 year old boy died of severe injuries to the head and body while he was being treated at the Quezon City hospital. Is brother and a friend were injured in the accident which happened around 12:45 along Sauyo Road Novaliches. The victims did not have helmets on while their friend drove without license. The teenagers were allegedly under the influence of liquor and police said they may have come from a Christmas party before the accident. According to the police the motorcycle allegedly veered into the opposite lane and slammed into a taxi. Their friend was thrown the driver’s seat and hit by an approaching Toyota Vois. Meanwhile the 17 year old fractured his skull and injured other parts of his body when hit the pavement. His friend is in critical condition while his brother was discharged after he was treated for bruises and gashes.
A laborer who was in the middle of an argument with his wife died on Christmas Day after his drunken son stabbed him in a fit of rage. The victim was a laborer and resident of sitio Mendez in Baesa Quezon City. His attacker his 28 year old son escaped and was being sought by the police. The stabbing happened inside the victim’s home. Based on the investigation the victim and his wife were talking about their financial problems and mounting debts when the discussion turned into an argument. The victim then asked his wife for a detailed computation of their expenses which she could not provide. This made the victim angrier and he raised his voice at his wife which irked their son who had just come home. Their son who was drunk tried to intervene and talk some sense into his father but the victim also became angry at him. The two started arguing and his son in a drunken rage, pulled out a knife and stabbed his father. His son immediately ran out of their house while his mother shouted for help attracting the attention of their neighbors who helped rush the victim to the hospital for treatment, but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
A trisikad driver died while the taxi driver is in the critical condition after two separate shooting incidents that marred the Christmas celebration in Cebu City. The driver died of multiple gunshots wounds in the body after two unidentified motorcycle riding men shot him several times in barangay Duljo Fatima. The victim was having a drinking session with his friends along B. Aranas Extension when one of the assailants approached and shot him several times. The gunman who stands about 5’3” in height about 30 years old, chubby and was wearing a dirty white t-shirt immediately rode on a waiting motorcycle and escaped towards barangay Labangon. The homicide investigators recovered four empty shells of caliber .45 caliber ammunition, slug and metallic fragments of the ammunition of the same caliber from the crime scene.
In another shooting incident, a taxi driver is in critical condition after he was shot by still unidentified person in barangay Inayawan. The unidentified shot the victim when the letter stopped at the corner of F.Jaca St., and Greenfield. The managed to drive his cab but latter bumped on a passenger jeepney. The gunman was seen boarding a brown Toyota Fortuner after the shooting incident and sped off towards barangay Dawis in Talisay City.
Meanwhile a farmer died while his companion was injured after a neighbor stabbed them following a heated argument over a card game on the eve of Christmas in Sitio Lobris, Barangay Pong-ol Sibugay. The suspect is a construction worker. The victims and the suspect were reportedly playing a card game locally known as tong-its when a heated argument happened between both of them. The suspect left but later returned with a knife and started stabbing the victim. A farmer was died on the spot while his companion tried to pacify but got the suspect’s ire instead. The suspect also started attacking the companion of the farmer but the latter managed to fight back despite having wounded. The suspect fled but was arrested by the responding barangay tanods.
A man was arrested as he allegedly tried to steal from two Chinese tourists as they slept inside their room in Beach Resort in Moalboal Town. The two said that they were both sleeping when of them awakened after hearing a loud thud inside their room. The Chinese national shouted for help upon seeing the suspect inside their room with their wallets in his possession. The suspect immediately threw the $420 dollars and 200 Hong Kong dollars on the floor before he was arrested by the bystanders and barangay tanods who responded to the alarm. According to the police the suspect entered their room by removing three jalousie blades at the comfort room window and wiggling himself inside. When the police officers arrived the suspect had already been collared was closely guarded by the bystanders. The suspect is detained at the police station awaiting charges to be filled against him.
Three men including an American national were hurt in separate hacking incidents in the province. The American, 31 year old just happened to be with the target person, 31 years old when the two were hacked at Sunvil Compound in barangay Poblacion Barili. The two are temporarily residing at a rented house. They were rushed to the hospital but later referred to the other hospital. The suspect is now detained by the police. The victims were reportedly arguing with the brother in law of the suspect during a party at the compound. When two were heading home after the party the suspect was already waiting for then at a corner along with two minors. The police investigation revealed that the suspect then hacked the victim’s using a scythe hitting the victim in neck and in both arms. The suspect surrendered to the responding police after the incident.
Meanwhile a 33 year old man was hacked several times by an unidentified man while standing outside the dancing area during a benefit dance at San Antonio North barangay Guinsay Danao City. The victim was a resident of Lapu-lapu St., barangay Suba sustained wounds in his head, nape, neck and right hand. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and later transferred to the other hospital in the city. The suspect eluded arrest. The victim was outside the dancing area watching when the suspect appeared and hacked him. The police are still looking for the suspect.

In Talisay City, a 50 year old man died after he was shot for mauling the suspect’s nephew at 7th St., Plainville barangay Bulacao. The victim is a resident in sitio mananga barangay Tabunok, sustained two gunshot wounds in the head. He was rushed to the hospital but declared dead on arrival. His assailant surrendered to the responding police officers. The police investigation disclosed that the victim was drunk when he went to visit his brother at sitio Paglaum when he passed by suspects group who were drinking along the road. The victim suddenly stopped and without provocation mauled the nephew of the suspect. The nephew of the suspect sustained bruises in the face but was able to escape from the victim’s grip and ran. And the victim was allegedly about mauled the suspect when the suspect pulled out his .38 revolver and shot the victim twice.
In Sibonga, a joke ended a security guard’s life after he was shot dead by his best friend at L.Mercado St,. Barangay Poblacion. The victim suffered from several gunshot wounds in his face and both legs. The suspect immediately fled. Both are drinking while making fun of each other.
Also other was killed; a wife was shot dead by her husband at sitio Das Highway barangay Lutopan Toledo City. The victim has a gunshot wound in the head after she was shot by her husband inside their house. Their children heard a gun shot before seeing their mother lying bloodied on the floor but they did not hear the couple having an argument. The couple has been separated for 10 years now. The wife lived with her parents at Tuburan leaving her three children in the custody of her husband. The victim arrived last week to celebrate Christmas with their children.
A fire razed a single story residential house in barangay Upper Market Subdivision while its homeowners were allegedly on vacation in Manila. The Baguio City Fire Station received a call from a neighbor saying smoke was seen coming out from the roof of the house. Fire marshals immediately responded to the area who upon their arrival noticed thick smoke following from the roof and several small opening of the house. As flames continued to intensify, the firemen forcibly cut open the locked gate laden with barbed wires. Reports from the neighbors showed there was no sign of the still unidentified caretaker hired to look after the house during holidays. Responding firemen immediately conducted firefighting operations which took 40 minutes before declaring the blaze under control. The investigation showed that the fire destroyed more than P500, 000 worth of property the house and most of its contents were made from combustible materials.
A teenager hanged himself Christmas morning in Tondo Manila because he did not get any gift. A 14 year old boy was found dead by his grandmother on December 25 in the morning. According to a buddy of the victim, the youngster was having a terrible day after he was bitten by a dog and got into a fight with a neighbor. On top of these the victim was sulking over the absence of a noche Buena meal and any gift for him. His grandmother said that she had already gotten him something to wear for Christmas. She also said she blames herself for what happened, believes that her grandson might have been hurt when she lashed at him because of his vices. The victim who was abandoned by his parents did not leave any suicide note. Authorities don’t suspect foul play and the family do not want any further investigation into the youngster’s death.
A Korean national was reported missing in the southern Philippine province of Surigao del Norte after he went boating to an island in the area. The police regional office reported that Korean national has been missing when he rented a small boat in General Luna town and set sail to Guyam Island in the same town. A fisherman reportedly found the boat of the victim floating near the island with only the Korean national’s wallet, hat and notebook national. Cops from General Luna town are also conducting further investigation on the case of posting time.
Three infants were among those rescues from a burning orphanage in Roxas City in Capiz province over the weekend. The Philippines News agency reported that the fire struck the Our Lady of Grace Academy in Lunoy village in Roxas City. The academy orphanage run by Dominican nuns has in its custody 28 orphans. The fire started at around 4:35 a.m. while the nuns and 25 orphans were attending the Dawn Mass. Only four helpers and the three infants were left at the building when the fire broke out. A certain Christian Chu was the first to come to the rescue of the victims after the fire broke out. The fire reached the second alarm and razed 12 rooms and portions of the chapel. The firefighters managed to save only a single room at the second floor and the kitchen. The initial investigation showed that the fire started when a ceiling fan overheated. The investigators estimated the damage to property at P1.2 million.
Some 500 houses were destroyed in a fire that hit a residential area in Muntinlupa City with up to 2, 000 families facing a homeless Christmas. The fire struck in Cupang village in Mandaluyong City causing tension among residents there. The fire started at 7:15 p.m. and reached the general alarm before 8:45 p.m. Firefighters finally placed it under control shortly after midnight. No one was initially reported hurt in the blaze which declared out before 2 a.m. Investigators are verifying claims that a 48 year old mentally deranged man may have started the fire. Several affected residents felt doubly depressed as the fire occurred a little more than a day before Christmas Day. The Muntinlupa City Mayor ordered the affected families temporarily sheltered at the city’s covered court and at the Cupang Elementary School.
A housewife and a business killed themselves in separate incidents in Quezon City on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. 30 years old a resident of Ilocos Sur street in barangay Bago Bantay reportedly shot herself in the head. A relative of the victim’s husband discovered the victim’s body in the master bedroom on the second floor of the house. The relative had gone up after hearing a gunshot coming from the room at around 10:30 a.m. It said the mother of the victim passed away earlier this year and she was mourned deeply. It said that the victim sustained a gunshot wound in the left temple with bullet exiting through the right temple; police recovered a .45 caliber Spartan pistol and a spent shell near the victim’s body.
In another part of Quezon City, a businessman reportedly jumped from the sixth floor of a condominium building in barangay Bagong Lipunan before dawn. The victim occupied a unit at the building. The building’s maintenance man told police he found the victim’s body on the ground floor near the swimming pool at around 5:30 a.m. The victim’s family told police they are convinced there was no foul involved in the incident.
Instead of celebrating Christmas at home, six family members including four youngsters in Cagayan spent it in hospital where they were rushed to the to the other day due to suspected food poisoning. The victims are one 14 years old, nine years old, eight years old and three years old. All cousins from Taguig town’s Salamagui village who were rushed to Tuguegarao City’s Cagayan valley Medical Center together with their aunt and a visitor. The victim reports should exhibits signs of food poisoning like stomach pains and vomiting after the reportedly partook of some food brought from Bulacan by their aunt, among adobo, eggs and sweetened langka. Their aunt came home to celebrate Christmas with the family but instead all spent the day in the hospital.
Three persons were wounded after an explosion happened inside a chapel at a police compound in Sulu province. In the report, the blast inside chapel at Camp Asturias occurred around 6 a.m. The three victims only sustained minor injuries during the blast which was traced from the ceiling of the chapel. People were hearing the Holy Mass when the explosion happened. As of this posting police are still trying to determine the type of explosive device used in the accident.
